MUMBAI: Amazon MX Player, Amazon’s free video streaming service, recently dropped the second season of First Copy, taking Arif and Afreen’s story into a deeper, darker, and far more emotionally charged territory. Set in early 2000s Mumbai—a time when the city pulsed with pirated tapes, underworld dealings, and back-alley hustlers—this season follows Arif as he struggles to keep his crumbling empire from collapsing entirely. Amid that chaos stands Afreen, growing steadier, braver, and more self-aware as the world around her spins out of control. While Arif fights the dangers of the streets, Afreen faces a quieter but equally intense internal battle.

Ashi Singh delivers a powerful emotional arc as Afreen, portraying her as a woman who survives storms that would break most people. Reflecting on her journey, Ashi shares, “Afreen’s journey is full of ups and downs, but she never gives up. No matter what she goes through—confusion, heartbreak, or betrayal—she always finds a way forward. Eventually, she discovers herself, finds her strength, and learns how to live without Arif. That’s what I really love about her. She starts as one person and becomes someone entirely different by the end, and bringing that transformation to life was beautiful.”

Ashi further elaborates on crafting Afreen’s emotional depth and duality, adding, “I worked very hard to add both innocence and depth to this chaotic universe. I wanted Afreen to feel real and relatable. She supports Arif even when he’s wrong because that’s who she is—flawed, emotional, human. But I never wanted her to come across as negative. I wanted her innocence and intelligence to shine together, so I focused on small emotional nuances. Afreen is always in her head, always processing, and that helped me portray her truthfully.”

With Season 2 raising the stakes emotionally and dramatically, Afreen’s evolution stands out as one of the show's most compelling elements—delivered with honesty, vulnerability, and remarkable depth by Ashi Singh.
