Rohit Shetty's Chennai Express that was scheduled to release on Thursday 8 August will now roll out a day later on 9 August (2013).
The decision has been taken keeping in mind the fact that Friday, being a bank holiday (Ramzan Id) would guarantee greater number of footfalls in theatres.
The decision was taken after a meeting held between Red Chillies, UTV and exhibitors. Commented Gaurav Verma, Director - India Theatrical Distribution, Studios Disney UTV, "When we planned the release of Chennai Express, we always had Eid in mind. And now that the festival will be celebrated on 9 August which also happens to be a holiday, it makes sense to release the film on that day."
It may be recalled that Shah Rukh had earlier spoken to Ekta Kapoor requesting her to push back the release of Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Dobara, which was also to release on 8 August by a week. Accordingly, the Akshay Kumar-Imran Khan-Sonakshi Sinha-starrer was pushed to release on 15 August.
