Celebrity quotient is just not enough; audience needs to see good performances - Marzi Pestonji

Marzi Pestonji
Marzi Pestonji, one of the judges of Zee TV’s DID (Dance India Dance) Super Moms is very happy with the way his show is being appreciated by the masses. “I guess what has worked are human emotions. Audience supports the hard work these women who are also mothers and housewives are putting in, to just be able to follow their passion (dance). Many of them have given up on promising careers to take care of their families. Having said this, it is just not their sad stories; we have superb performances which take away your breath as well.” Here Marzi adds by saying, “Since the contestants include both professional and amateur dancers, we have to be careful when and how we judge them. We categorize them. Our main focus is on how much they have grown as dancers, right from day one of the competition.” Marzi is also very happy that realty formats like DID have made dance a rage. “Till a few years back nobody took this performing art form as a serious profession. Only women danced and such girls did not get good husbands. The idea of boys dancing was a strict no.” He is also very happy that some contestants are actually getting a chance to dance in films. “When guests come on the show and promise them assignments, it makes me very happy to note that our show is giving them a chance at a successful life ahead.” Marzi also has no issue with a certain amount of masala which is added. “Entertainment value is a must, else it will become a boring dance show. But here you need to ensure that it happens naturally, else the audiences can spot fake stuff very easily.” When asked to compare DID Super Moms with other on-air reality shows which have celebrity dancers he says, “Celebrity quotient is just not enough; audience needs to see good performances.” Marzi who has been constantly targeted for his lack of knowledge of Hindi feels that he is much better with the lingua franca of the nation than what he was before, “But I yet need to go a long way, till then Jay Bhanushali (anchor), Farah Khan (fellow judge) and Mithun Da( Mahaguru) will continue to take digs at me.” In closing, Marzi when asked who among the remaining contestants have a chance to lift the crown, he says, “I feel Phulwa Khamkar, Radhika Das and Zoya Khan have a chance to go all the way.”
