From being a dancer to bagging the lead role in Zee’s next ‘Sanjog Se Bani Sangini’ it has been a dream come true for Binny Sharma. TellyChakkar caught up with her to know more on this change… Tell us a bit about your character in the show I play Gauri, a very strong and confident girl. She is mature and has many responsibilities, has to face a lot of difficulties but she is not bogged down by it. She is fun loving and full of enthusiasm. You were offered the show during the Dance India Dance (DID) finale, how excited were you about it? Honestly when I had auditioned for the role and when I did get a call for it I knew that I had to focus on the competition and should not be losing my attention from it. Usually when you get a break like this, it happens but I did not let that come in my way to perform in the finals. I reached the finale and then I went forward with the show. Why did they offer you this role considering you were a DID contestant? Yes when I got to know about the role I knew it was challenging. I was told that in spite of being a DID contestant, in spite of injuring myself in the show and even during the low moments I had never given up. I always laughed about it, I hate crying in front of everyone. It was just once during my malkhamb act that Geeta (Kapur) Ma cried and I could not control my tears as well. I was also known to be expressive, even my mentors have commented on my expressions. They have told me that it enhances my performances. I always go into a trance while performing. Did you always want to act or you gave it a thought because you got an offer for the show? I always had this thought that if after dance I got an opportunity I would go for acting. During DID, I realized I had the ability to act and I wanted to explore it. I never thought ki mujhe itna bada break milega but the moment I got it, I knew that now I have the opportunity to prove myself. As a dancer, I have proven myself but this is my first step towards acting. Were you nervous when you gave your first shot? Obviously, the very first day you will be nervous also because you have such an amazing star cast with you. All these actors have done work before. Thodi der ke liye I was nervous but then I was back to my confident self. You had been rejected during the first season of DID. Tell us about that? When I was rejected for season 1, I put in a lot of hard work, preparing myself for season 2. During that one year, I faced many problems. I prepared myself by watching YouTube videos, worked rigorously, reduced a lot of weight. I reached the finale and I think that was a big achievement. In a way, I proudly admit that my dancing has opened up new doors for me. During DID Season 2, did you feel it was more about stunts? Yes, I think the level was somewhere else this time, we showed a lot of acrobatics. Maybe our mentors wanted us to learn all the different styles. As Indian audiences, we had no idea about so many dance forms and so we attempted to show that to the audiences. We are happy what we did. So will dancing take a back seat for Binny now? Binny is nothing without dancing so I don’t think it can take a back seat. Will we see your performances during the show as well? Probably we will see it in the show as well because I connect with the audiences as a dancer. Tell us something about your family? I am from Punjab but I am settled in Gujarat for the past 10 years. I am the youngest of three sisters. My parents are my biggest support system. They were very happy when they came to know about the show. They are supportive. Tell us about Iqbal Khan and Additi Gupta who are your co-stars in the show. Do you think they will overshadow you? I haven’t shot with Additi yet. I have had scenes with Iqbal though. But I feel proud to be a part of this cast. They are brilliant actors and I do not think I will be overshadowed because I am confident about myself. I am very happy I am a part of it. Gauri does not believe in love, does Binny believe? Gauri believes in love but she hasn’t fallen in love yet. As for Binny, she loves her parents but doosrawala love hasn’t happened yet.
