Rock ‘N’ Roll Family goes kaput?

Often when participants of reality shows fail to impress the viewers, the focus is then shifted to the judges who then resort to trivial means (and fights) so as to catch enough eyeballs. Zee TV’s first dance-based reality show Rock ‘N’ Roll Family, after failing to garner enough TRPs, is reportedly making news for the antics of its judges – Tanuja, Ajay and Kajol Devgan. Not long ago, news-starved scribes carried stories of Ajay Devgan walking out of the show upset with few contestants who wanted a change in the format. The latest buzz is Ajay’s wife Kajol breaking down on the sets regularly. With the judges occupying the center stage, one wouldn’t be faulted in thinking that such stories are scripted. However, the show’s Creative Head Payaol Patel disagrees, “There's no way that we can dictate terms to such eminent personalities. There are no given scripts here. Tales of Ajay walking off from the sets are all false” Rock N Roll Family ’s director Satish Datt says, “Kajol has been struggling to come to terms with her father’s death. At times, she simply bursts into tears. We then ask Ajay to comfort her but he too is helpless. Ajay says that that’s been the case with Kajol ever since she lost her dad. There’s no way that we’ll be telecasting this.” Apart from the poor quality of contestants, Rock... has also drawn flak for its unimpressive judges. No doubting their credentials as actors but the Devgans and Tanuja somewhat appear to lack the charm that’s needed for a judge on reality show. Often the trio tends to repeat their comments. “Yes, we have observed it and brought it to their notice. However, we can’t lay terms to them. Reality shows are all about giving spontaneous reaction,” said Payaol. On final analysis, what is the one thing that has gone against the show? Is it the format or the poor quality of contestants? Payaol enunciates “Obviously, we expected the show to do lot better but even our super hit show Sa Re Ga Ma didn’t do all that well in its first year. I don’t think our format is faulty and neither did we want professional dancers on our show. We consider Rock.. as a total family entertainment show. Our aim was to have a family perform together on stage and I reckon we’ve succeeded in that aspect.”
