Meghna Malik is happy with the initial run of Gustakh Dil (Life OK), her next big fiction show after Na Aana Is Des Laado.
“My character in Gustakh Dil is completely different while the above hit Colors show had a rural set up. In this show, Barkha is a modern urban lady facing family issues. Like Ammaji, she too is strong, but has some baggage to deal with,” she averred.
Meghna does not think playing an urban woman is easier as opposed to essaying a rustic woman for, “Even here (Gustakh Dil), my character wears saris while I don’t do that in my real life. Also at the end of the day, her life is not mine. Since I am a good work-hungry actress, I am always on the lookout for good meaty roles. At this point I wish to add that it is the writers who make TV characters strong,” Meghna observed.
The actress who has been working in the entertainment space for the last 10 years (Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi, Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai, Tujko Hai and Salaam Zindgi etc ), is realistic enough to accept that she will only get mother’s roles. “TV world is such that you either have young women in her twenties or women in fifties; there is no middle zone,” she quipped.
Remind her that Life OK is not a very happening channel and she went on to say, “When Laado was launched on Colors, it was still new. As an actor I just look at my role and how much important it is, to the overall narrative.”
Recently she also had a great experience in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. “Karan Johar was shocked at my real avtaar as he had only seen me as Ammaji,” Meghna informed. But she has no regrets at being voted out in the early rounds. “It was good till it lasted. To be honest, I had just come out of a fracture on my elbow. Hence I was not sure if I would be able to do something I had never done before (dance), but I did,” she admitted.
Looking ahead, Meghna who also recently won the Kitchen Champion title is open to participate in other reality formats as well. When asked about Nach Baliye, she maintained, “Last year when I was approached, I told them that they will need to find me a baliye.”
Before bidding her goodbye, we quizzed about her activities between Laado and now, to which she said, “I spent time with my family and also took part in social initiatives back home in Haryana.”
All the best, Meghna!!
