Shoojit Sircar teams up with Ronnie Lahiri to produce Running Shaadi.com

In his resolve to support new directors realise their dreams, director, Shoojit Sircar has teamed up with Ronnie Lahiri and launched their production house Rising Sun Films that is co-producing Running Shaadi.com along with Crouching Tiger Motion Pictures. The film is to be directed by debutante Amit Roy who had earlier worked as a cinematographer for filmmakers like Ram Gopal Varma (Sarkar) and Rohan Sippy (Dum Maaro Dum). Observed Shoojit, “Amit Roy is a friend for many years. So when he came up to me with this script, I thought it was very interesting and a sweet love story which we decided to produce under our banner Rising Sun Films. We are committed to making entertaining cinema and this film fits the bill perfectly.” Running Shaadi.com is a youth romantic comedy that centers around this website which helps people elope and get married. Delving deep into the minds of India’s young, especially in the smaller towns, the film is intelligently entertaining with an array of endearing characters. The film will have Amit Sadh, who made eyes roll in UTV’s Kai Po Che and Taapsee Pannu, who was the cynosure of all eyes in David Dhawan’s remake of Chashme Baddoor. It will be primarily shot in Punjab. Running Shaadi.com is to release in mid-2014.
