Looks like Southern movie industry is fast catching up with Bollywood in the numbers’ game. Tamil movie Arrambam which opened to packed houses on 31st October has created history down south by collecting 100 crore in just 10 days flat. The film directed by Vishnu Vardhan is an action thriller and has superstar Ajith Kumar, Nayantara and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles. According to south trade analyst Trinath, Arrambam approximately collected 9.21 crore on the opening day in Tamil Nadu which is the highest ever for an Ajith film. Also helping the film in its cause were the multiple positive reviews it received from critics. Within a week, the movie made close 50 crore at the box-office, thereby making it a ‘superhit’. The absence of any new releases also meant brisk business for the movie in the next week as well thereby helping it cross the coveted 100 crore mark. With this, Arrambam become the third Kollywood movie after Vishwaroopam and Singam II to enter the 100 crore league this year. Meanwhile, there were also rumours doing the rounds that the movie will soon be remade in Hindi by action star Akshay Kumar. Reports suggest that Akshay was much impressed with the bumper opening that Arrambam received and has reportedly sent out feelers to the makers that he is interested in buying the remake rights. There was no official confirmation or denial about the news from Akshay’s camp yet. Keep watching this space to know more.
