Bollywood expresses shock and disgust over Tarun Tejpal's alleged sexual misconduct

India woke up today to the shocking and disturbing news of the sexual ignominy Tehelka boss Tarun Tejpal brought onto himself. He allegedly sexually assaulted a young female employee of Tehelka who also happens to be his daughter's best friend. Thankfully he had the moral courage to accept the reprehensible act and step aside. Bollywood though was outraged and thrashed Tarun for committing such a deplorable act. Actor Farhan Akhtar expressed his disgust by taking to Twitter: “Woke up to the shocking news of Tarun Tejpal. A person in his position has to live by the ethical standard he demands of others. Sad.” His father, lyricist Javed Akhtar wrote: “It’s a shame that someone with such impeccable values has committed such an act but unlike some he has the guts to accept and repent.” Director Kunal Kohli was scathing in his remarks and questioned the media for not reporting the incident in detail: “Why is it that leading newspapers didn't carry the Tehelka Tejpal story. Secret code of conduct? Sabki bajao, apno ko bachao!!!” Pooja Bhatt twitted, “Is an “unconditional apology to the colleague involved” enough?Why is there such a deafening silence in most sections of the media? #Tehelka Actor Siddharh’s tweet read: “Tarun Tejpal steps down as ‘Tehelka’ editor after alleged sexual misconduct. Shocking! Will ‘Tehelka’ be able to treat him objectively?” Tarun Tejpal in the meanwhile has offered to step down as the Editor of Tehelka for a period of six months. With the Supreme Court having passed stringent guidelines on dealing with sexual harassment at work place, we feel Tarun could find himself in serious trouble soon if the victim lodges a formal police complaint.
