Sujata Sehgal who plays a political leader in Sony Entertainment Television’s Desh Ki Beti Nandini, produced by Rashmi Sharma Productions is personally very disappointed at the current state of the nation.
Pointing out to the flaws in the system of today, the actress states, “It sucks, as the leadership is full of donkeys. Young girls are getting raped, there are incidents of molestation. We need a wholesome change as soon as possible. But it is very difficult to change the situation, for the entire system is rotten. We know that you need to pay bribes to get the smallest service done. There is scant respect for the law and everybody is only abusing each other. I think it will be years before we can see a new dawn. I don’t want to comment more on the topic as I have limited knowledge about it.”
Sujata who has previously done shows such as Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai, Dekha Ek Khwaab, etc accepts that it would have been better, had Nandini focused on contemporary political happenings. “That is something which the producer (Rashmi Sharma) and writers decide. But if you ask me, I think that would have been a better choice, but then you can’t get very real on TV. Do you see any political character wearing make-up and looking good? Then you end up looking not like a politician but a celebrity.”
Sujata also denied that her character look has been influenced by any political leader of the day. “Although many people come and tell me that my character looks similar to Sonia Gandhi in carriage, my producer never told me to ape anybody. I was just told that I had to play a very strong lady who can’t show emotions, for she has to single-handedly take care of the entire party and her family. I have been praised for the grace and style with which I carry myself on screen. And I must thank my mother for that, who has been an artist.”
Impressive thoughts, must say!!
