"I am hundred per cent sure that Shah Rukh and I can never be the best of friends again," confessed Salman in Koffee with Karan

Salman Khan on Koffee With Karan
Picture this. You are assigned the task of interviewing Salman Khan. Of course, you would be interested in asking him about his girlfriends, his bedroom affairs and the other salacious gossip linked to his personal life. But we are sure you would dare not ask these questions right at the very beginning. Unless, you are Karan Johar, of course. For only Karan Johar has the guts to quiz this former enfant terrible actor on his bedroom affairs and escape with impunity. All this and more happened on Karan’s much loved talk show Koffee with Karan which opened yesterday with a bang with superstar Salman Khan as Karan’s first guest. No sooner had Salman settled himself in to the black cushy couch than Karan asked him the reason behind his reluctance in appearing in the earlier seasons of Koffee with Karan. Salman replied that he has never been comfortable with Karan’s line of questioning especially him asking celebrities about their personal lives. That was the start the wily Karan needed and soon enough he dived into Salman’s bedroom and had the star confessing on camera that he is a virgin. Although Salman did appear innocent on camera while saying that he is a virgin, we are sure viewers must have taken it with a pinch of salt. Salman couldn’t just have been holding hands with his girlfriends all these years. The best thing about the first episode yesterday was the sincerity with which Salman answered all questions relating to his personal life concerning his girls and his b?te noire Shah Rukh Khan. The most striking statement made by Salman on Shahrukh was – ‘I am 100 per cent sure that me and Shah Rukh will never be the best of friends again.’ Karan, however didn’t probe Salman to know why he had made such a statement which we feel he should have. Salman, however, did make it a point to reveal that it was he who always took the first step towards ending the animosity and not SRK. The magnanimous Salman then went on to say that he has immense respect for SRK and his body of work and will never tolerate anyone bad mouthing him before Salman just to earn some brownie points. The most endearing moment for us was when Karan also got Salman’s father Salim Khan to join his son on the couch. Now this was a first in the history of Indian television for never before has Salman and his father shared screen space together. Salim Khan, too on his part, was upright and not at all melodramatic when he spoke about the days Salman was incarcerated. Salim even put it on record that as a father he has never said his son is innocent for that is for the courts to decide. The best thing about Koffee with Karan, as always, remains the ease with which celebrities open up on issues hitherto spoken about. Never will you hear Salman discussing his virginity openly. Neither will you hear Kareena speaking about Katrina and Ranbir (that’s coming in the second episode). The host, Karan needs to be credited for making his guests super comfortable before asking those uncomfortable questions. The format doesn’t really seem to have undergone a vast change. Karan’s line of question remains the same and so is the rapid fire round which only makes the show even more exciting. And if the first episode yesterday was anything to go by, we can say that Karan has another winner on hands, yet again. P.S – Salman had Karan in a spot yesterday when he told him that if given a chance he would like to have Karan as his gay partner. A flustered Karan didn’t know where to look. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any more embarrassing for the host, Salman screamed, ‘I will be the guy, okay.’ Karan immediately moved on to the next question. Moral – No one messes with Salman.
