2013 - Top Reality Shows
Today, what best works in the TV business apart from emotional drama are the reality shows! The genre has come a long way from the times of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Antakshari, where all that mattered-was talent and simple fun. Today with glamour finding a prominent place in the race to success, channels invest heavily on reality shows. And with TVT ratings notching higher and higher, we must say they have managed to give the desired result expected from them. Here we bring you the Top Reality Shows that have soared in popularity in 2013. Bigg Boss 7 (Endemol) – Well, truly the boss of reality shows, Bigg Boss has been a game changer in its genre. With getting around a dozen celebrities from every field coming together under the same roof with no access to the outside world, the show has turned wilder and controversial year after year. With Dabbang Salman Khan holding the reign as the affable host, this Colors’ show sure is a winner in the field. This year controversies have thickened with Armaan-Tanisha’s ‘touchy’ relationship and Kushal-Gauahar’s ‘fake’ love story. Dance India Dance Super Moms (Esselvision) - This show came as a surprise for Zee and the production house, with the amount of popularity it gained. With some really talented mothers who came from different fields, DID Super Moms rocked the charts. The heartwarming stories of mothers who dared to step out of the kitchen was well appreciated and gave inspiration to million others as they watched them perform on stage. India’s Best Dramebaaz (Esselvision) - As the name suggests, it had some of the most talented dramebaaz kids on the show. With various shows that give chance to actors to try their luck, this one was the first to lend a platform to the children. Judged by director Anurag Basu and actors Sonali Bendre and Vivek Oberoi, the show managed to gift some really young brilliant actors to the industry. With Zee signing some of them, the show truly proved a great stepping stone for these youngsters. India’s Dancing Superstar (BBC Worldwide Media) – There is no dearth of dancing shows on our TV today, and this series on Star Plus too had nothing different to project. But what made it worth noticing was the quality of talent that the show managed to gather. Groups like MJ 5 and Loyala Dream Team along with youngsters Akshay Pal, Padmini and Debashish managed to catch the attention of the junta and industry experts. Indian Idol Junior (Fremantle Productions)- This project actually managed to go a step forward amongst children based reality shows. And all credit goes to the wonderful and melodious crooners who took the world for a shock with their talents. The young buds-some trained some God gifted- not only won the audiences’ hearts but also of actors from TV and Bollywood. All came together to applaud these champions. Sony Entertainment Television also cashed in at the ratings front. Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6 (BBC Worldwide Productions) - This celebrity reality show may be based on dance, but it works only because of the popular stars it has in its list of contestants. Colors, which already has Bigg Boss, stands high with this show too. The series always manages to get the most popular and interesting celebrities from different fields who train in various dance forms every week to burn the dance floor with their moves. Also the show has popular comedy stars Manish Paul and Kapil Sharma who takes the entertainment quotient a notch high as hosts. And not to mention the impressive judges trio- Karan Johar, Madhuri Dixit and Remo Dsouza. Kaun Banega Crorepati (Big Synergy) – Well, when you have the legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan testing your knowledge, you really need to be confident and smart to answer him. The show is a big catch for Sony TV who every year brings out the best sharp minds on the show and helps them win big moolahs with their intelligence. Added to it is the charm of Big B, who keeps the viewers, entertained throughout. MasterChef India (Colesceum Productions) – Food is always a very important part of Indian culture and when you have a common man like yourself rustling up an exotic dish, you become their fan instantly. This funda has worked for the show with it running successfully for three years. Adding more fun on the series, the channel (Star Plus) and the production house churned out a Junior MasterChef competition where little kids awed the world with their culinary skills. Nach Baliye 6 (Frames Productions) – Another celebrity dance show, but this time with real life partners. With celebrities coming together with their baliyes and grooving to some wonderful numbers, the show has become a favourite for TV lovers. With the sixth season currently on air, the show is doing great rounds and with judges Terence Lewis, Shilpa Shetty and Sajid Khan, the fun is never ending. It airs on Star Plus. Sab Khelo Sab Jeeto (Neela Telefilms)- Remember the fun games we used to play in our childhood, this show on SAB TV gives you the same experience. Hosted by funny actor Cyrus Sahukar, the series gives chance to families to come together and win wonderful prizes. It’s a refreshing move on reality space. Although the show has not managed to get good numbers, but it definitely is a great watch. Splitsvilla 6 (Colosceum) – With sexy boys and girls around, who will not want to flirt and keep their options open? This MTV show gives an open invitation to people to come and fall in love along with the chance to become famous. The show which aired its sixth season this year has been under the eyes of moral gurus who feel that it is harming the culture of our country. But whatever said and done, the show is a boon for strugglers who want to get a start in the world of entertainment. The Bachelorette India (SOL Productions) - The drama queen Mallika Sherawat thought she would get a partner for herself. Voila! There came a reality show for her. Based on a Hollywood show, this Life OK project had a dozen of young dashing guys from across the country trying to woo Ms Sherawat. Along with the romance came a lot of drama and emotions with the contestants speaking ill about the girl they came for. That made it for a perfect reality show… we guess! And here we would like to mention a special show- Boogie Woogie (R& N Productions) that makes a comeback this week. The show has been the original dance reality show and an inspiration for all that came next. However, with the show just rolling its carriage, we are sure it will hold a prominent position on our list next year. So who will be the winner in this section? Well, like all reality shows, we too have a public voting to decide the winner. So vote for your favourite reality show and make it the coveted winner in Tellychakkar.com’s Year Ender series.
