In a nation obsessed with superstars and their pervading charm, fine actors seldom get their due. One such actor is Jimmy Shergill who despite being in the industry since 1996 and delivering heart tugging performances in the roles offered to him, lacks the pull of a superstar. And for someone who started off well in his heydays with YRF’s blockbuster movies like Mohabbatein and Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, it’s a bit surprising to see him not having collaborated with YRF more often than expected. When we quizzed Jimmy about this anomaly, the actor was quite honest and forthcoming in his opinion.
“I really don’t know. I have excellent relations with Adi (Aditya Chopra) and YRF. I visit them during Diwali and other festive occasions. What I have always felt that Adi is the kind of person who will call you only if he feels there is a role that suits you. Perhaps given the kind of film that Adi is producing right now, he feels I don’t fit into their scheme of things.”
When asked if he has ever had a discussion on the same with Aditya Chopra, Jimmy said, “Although I would love to work with Adi, I feel odd to call him up and say, ‘Adi yaar mereko push karo.’ If I do that, then it would be like testing somebody’s intelligence. So if he has anything in mind, I am sure he will himself tell me that, ‘Jimmy I have a story which if you like we can do it together’. I feel awkward to call him up and ask for any work. May be if you happen to interview him, you should perhaps ask why it’s not happening.”
Replying to our query of his dream role, Jimmy expressed his wish of essaying romantic roles similar to the kind he did in Mohabbatein and other romantic sagas that he has been a part of. “I would still like to do roles that see me as a romantic hero shooting in beautiful locales and romancing the heroine.”
We hope the great Aditya Chopra is listening!!!
