Shoot of Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Byomkesh Bakshi brightens the BBD Bag area in Kolkata on Sunday

Sushant Singh Rajput and Dibakar Banerjee
The BBD Bag area (Dalhousie Square) in Kolkata, that generally wears a deserted look on Sundays, was seen full of activity yesterday when it turned into a shooting site for Dibakar Banerjee's under-production film Detective Byomkesh Bakshi. The area was seen full of vintage cars, vintage tramcars, horse drawn carriages, kirtan singers dressed in ochre and men in dhotis and kurtas to revive the ‘40s feel in which the story of Bengal's famous fictional detective is set. The action was concentrated near the Standard Life Assurance Building, considered as one of the finest buildings around Lal Dighi (formally Tank Square) in the area which has large concentration of colonial buildings. It is gathered that this is the second shoot of the film in the city; the first was held last month. Incidentally, Banerjee had bought the rights of all 33 Byomkesh Bakshi stories written by Saradindu Bandyopadhyay. Sushant Singh Rajput plays the main lead in the film. Earlier, the area, which is a beautiful archway of the 120-year-old stucco building, was used for the shooting of a few sequences of Tigmanshu Dhulia's Bullet Raja. For some years, filmmakers have been shooting in Kolkata. Films shot there include Mani Ratnam's Yuva, parts of his film Raavan, Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani, Anurag Basu's Barfi and most recently YRF’s Gunday.
