I cannot play a younger 'me' post a leap: Seema Mishra

Seema Mishra
The talented actress Seema Mishra is one of the three artistes who have moved out of Colors’ Madhubala-Ek Ishq Ek Junoon (Nautanki Telefilms) post the leap. While Vivian Dsena and Sikander Kharbanda did not want to play parents to kids of their age, Deepali was more concerned about her role in the new set up. When questioned, Seema said, “I don’t have an issue with ageing on-screen, but then I wanted to play something substantial even post the leap. Forgive me for I am going to sound clichéd, but what happens post the leap is that actors are taken further for continuity.” “But I can’t stand in the crowd and do nothing for I wouldn’t be comfortable in such an atmosphere. Deepali had become a huge rage amongst the masses and I would like that feel to remain. I can’t let her become something else,” admitted the actress with utmost sincerity. So did you wait for a creative brief on your character post the leap? “Yes, I waited. I wanted to understand if I would be offered something substantial and challenging. But then the creatives too felt that they shouldn’t show me as a 40 plus Deepali. They felt that I could come back as a stronger character later, but there was no clarity on the same. That’s when we mutually decided to put an end to it,” Seema averred. When asked to give her take on female protagonists playing their own children post the leap, the actress observed, “It all depends from person-to-person but honestly I cannot play a younger ‘me’ post the leap. Yes, for some it gives them monetary stability. Being repetitive as a character does not cater my creative sensibilities. But as a ingenious person, how long can I do that? This would upset me as an actor. I feel it’s always good to begin with a challenge, for if you stick to the same thing, your goals start fading away.” Are you missing the regular shoots of Madhubala? “Yes, I do miss Madhubala, but more than anything I am upset over the fact that I am not given a call time for the next day. After all I was part of the show for one and a half years. I am also sad about not getting to meet my friends whom I used to be with every day,” she informed. What’s next? “I have a lot of plans. The first one is to get back to doing rigorous workouts. As far as work is concerned I know the people who want to work with me. So, I’ll take up work as and when it materializes," Seema answered. Seema, you are definitely one sorted woman. Keep up the good work.
