Actress Shabana Azmi’s fundraising fashion show, ‘Men for Mijwan’ organized for her NGO Mijwan Welfare Society that was founded by her late father note poet Kaifi Azmi, saw the A-listers of Bollywood turning out in huge numbers. And lending solidarity and support to the NGO’s mission of women empowerment were five leading men of Bollywood namely Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar and Sidharth Malhotra all of whom walked the ramp for designer Manish Malhotra’s collection to benefit ‘Mijwan Welfare Society’.
While all the five men looked elegant in Manish’s designs which this time reflected traditional heart of India, the loudest cheer was reserved for the Shahenshah of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan whose walk literally stole the thunder away from all others. Not surprisingly, Amitabh received a rousing standing ovation once he completed his walk.
Pledging his support for the girl child, before the start of the fashion show, actor Ranbir gave a touching speech where he fondly remembered his younger days with his sister Riddhima Kapoor.
“It is important to empower the girl child. My parents raised Riddhima and me without any discrimination. As a matter of fact, I believe that she was better cared for and given more attention and is today a proud mother of a three-year old beautiful daughter called Samara. Samara today gets 10 times more attention than me or anyone else because she deserves it. I wish to see that with every girl child in India because they truly deserve it. And I urge all of you to be the change and make the world a better place to live in by supporting the noble cause of empowering every girl child.”
We are sure this appeal from the nation’s heartthrob will surely make a difference.
