Kirron Kher plays Rekha in Khubsoorat

Now it can be told. In Khubsoorat Sonam Kapoor plays the daughter of the character that Rekha played in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Khubsoorat. According to a source close to the new Khubsoorat Kirron Kher plays the character originally played by Rekha. “When Shashank Ghosh re-wrote Khubsoorat for Sonam Kapoor it was felt that Rekha’s character from the original film by Hrishida was way too outdated to be valid in today’s context. At the same time Anil Kapoor, a huge fan of Hrishida’s cinema, wanted to retain the original character,” says the source. It was decided that Sonam would play the daughter of the character Rekha played in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Khubsoorat. In fact the original idea for the remake was to rope in Rekha to play the character she had played in Hrishida’s film. However for reasons best known to Rekha—the diva does work in mysterious ways-- she turned down producer Rhea Kapoor’s offer to play Sonam’s mother. Now the part originally played by Rekha has gone to Kirron Kher. Says Sonam mysteriously, “Well, Kirronji plays a character named Manju after Rekhaji’s character in Khubsoorat. That’s all I am going to reveal right now.”
