BBC gets into trouble over Narendra Modi reportage

Keith Vaz, the longest-serving Asian MP in the UK, has lodged a formal complaint with the BBC on the quality of coverage given to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi by BBC on 16 May, the day of Indian elections results. In a letter dated 2 June addressed to Lord Tony Hall, Director General of the BBC, Vaz says, “Many of my constituents particularly those of Indian origin and of the Hindu faith were offended by the reporting about Narendra Modi.” Vaz then goes on to insinuate that the BBC presenter Yalda Hakim had portrayed Mr Modi as a “controversial figure” and that the image of India has been tarnished by the BBC’s coverage. Vaz has asked for an internal investigation in the matter.
