There can be nothing damning in our country than being accused of rape. Irrespective of whether you are innocent or not, the world views you with microscopic eyes and in the bargain you end up losing your name, reputation and everything else at one go. Inder Kumar is going through a similar phase right now. The actor who was arrested in April on charges of rape is currently out on bail and has busied himself in gathering all the evidence to fight the case tooth and nail till his innocence is proved. Tellychakkar had first published Inder's wife Pallavi's statement a day after he was arrested. We caught up with the actor today and listened in to all that he had to say.
You have been finally granted bail after a month's incarceration...
Yes, I am out on bail finally. Section 376 is a non-bailable offence and the very fact that I have been granted bail in my very first hearing proves that the allegations levelled on me were absolutely baseless, false and fabricated. It was written in the media that I physically abused her, kept her as a prisoner and all that. This was all wrong information that was passed on by the girl. We collected all the evidence that we had in our hand and presented them in the court. Within half an hour of the hearing, I was granted bail. Every allegation made in the FIR has been fabricated and is false. I have lost house, my name and even six films because of this false slur. I will fight this case in a fast track court and make sure every person involved in trapping me in this false case pays. I will legally make them pay for their sins.
You mean other people are involved in this case along with the victim?
Someone must have taught and tutored her. I can very well say that I was trapped. I had nothing to do with this girl. In fact, she was nothing more than an acquaintance. Just dosti hui thi. Thodi jaan pehchaan hui thi. Nothing else. If I had known about her background and how bad it is, I wouldn't have even befriended her in the first place. I can't disclose more details on those. You will get to know about it during the trial.
But you did live-in with her for a few days and your wife also knew about it. Right?
See, my wife knew about the fact that I was friends with this girl. We may have known each other for not more than 15 days. It was just an innocent friendship. And to answer your question, I never left my wife to live-in with her. Aisa Ek dum se live-in relation nahi tha.
You say she has trapped you. How?
See, when my wife got to know about this girl, she took my daughter away and that is when the fight between me and my wife started. As a friend, I asked her to help me sort out things with my wife and on the pretext of sorting out she ended up taking full advantage and ruined my life by levelling this baseless and false charge.
But do you admit to having engaged in any sort of sexual relationship with her?
I would have answered that question but since the matter is sub-judice, I can't. All I can say is the truth will come out when I fight my case.
You have also been charged for physically abusing her...
(Cuts in) I have a daughter myself. I have the deepest respect for women. I may forgive a murderer but never a rapist. Rape according to me is the most deplorable and despicable crime ever. I will never ever raise my finger against a women even if I am angry.
Why did you have a smile on your face on the day of your arrest?
I have done nothing wrong. So why should my shoulders droop or why should I look ashamed? I know I am innocent and hence walked with my head held high. Even if there was at least 5 percent truth in her allegations, I wouldn't have been granted bail in the first hearing. And if I had walked into the court that day with my head hung low, people would have said look at him. He is ashamed. I am not because I am innocent. I have done no wrong.
Have you received any support from the film industry?
Yes. People and my friends have called me to express their solidarity.
Has Salman spoken to you yet or vice-versa?
Salman Bhai is like an elder brother. He will always be there for me. He has been supporting me since the last 15 years. I have not called him but I will definitely try and meet him whenever possible.
Any films in hand that you would be shooting for?
Yes. Although I lost out on six big projects that I had almost signed, I have one film now called Mohabbat Hain Kya Cheez. It's Ram Bundela's film and I play the second lead. I am thankful to them for not having replaced me.
