Barfi! Is the Best Film at Okinawa Intl Film Festival

The Ranbir Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra- Ileana D'Cruz-starrer Barfi! recently won the Grand Jury Award for Best Film at this year’s (2013) Okinawa International Film Festival, Japan. The film, directed by Anurag Basu was featured in the competition section along with last year's most acclaimed critical successes from across the world including <em>Beasts of the Southern Wild</em> (USA) that had received four Academy Awards nominations and has already won three awards at Cannes 2012.

Disney UTV Studio to pitch Barfi, Paan Singh Tomar at various intl film fests

Disney UTV Studios's <em>Barfi</em> and <em>Paan Singh Tomar</em> (PST) will compete in various festivals across the globe as the Oscars, BAFTA ( British Academy of Film and Television Arts) and Golden Globe awards in various categories. UTV contemplating Tamil remake of Barfi!

After wooing the Hindi speaking audience, UTV, the makers of Barfi! are toying with the idea of remaking the film in Tamil. According to sources, a top notch southern star has reportedly shown interest in the project. Said Disney-UTV Motion Pictures chief - South Business, "It is too early to talk about the remake of <em>Barfi</em>!. Although one of the leading heroes has expressed his interest to do the film and a good director has also agreed to make the film." Once the project is confirmed, the film will go on floors in February-March 2013, according to Dhananjayan.

Candit chat with Ileana "Barfi" d'Cruz

Like many of her colleagues from South Indian cinema, Ileana d’Cruz intends to move to Mumbai after discovering success in this part of the world. In <em>Barfi</em> this pretty star of the Telugu cinema has managed to hold her own in spite of bravura performances by Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor. Says the pretty actress, “I am planning to move to Mumbai very soon, probably in the next couple of months.”

Barfi is original...says Anurag Basu

Anurag Basu defends himself stoutly against charges of his film being copied from various sourced. Says the director passionately, “I am very proud to say Barfi is a completely original story. It’s very difficult to make original cinema and I take a lot of pride in saying Barfi is original. It baffles me why people are not appreciating the original plot, screenplay, characters and situations.”

The Barfi character played to pitch-perfection by Ranbir Kapoor, patented, popularized and now globalized by its producers UTV and director Anurag Basu, will now have a life outside the movies. While Anurag doggedly refuses any suggestion of s sequel to <em>Barfi</em> he is open to keeping Barfi’s character alive beyond the precincts of the film.
