When the first part of the movie came out in 2018, Rajkummar Rao's character "Vicky" was a breakout role. However, this was only made possible when Vicky Kaushal turned down the movie. Vicky Kaushal rejected a chance to star in the horror-comedy before Rajkummar Rao to focus on Manmarziyaan.
