To chase a shining star

Almost each and every GEC has some or the other singing/music reality show on air. As understood by most of us, and this includes the participants too, the purpose of such shows is to give talented people from smaller cities and towns a platform to enter the world of playback singing.

The long and short of cameos

Recently, Abhishek Bachchan and his Dum Maaro Dum co-star Rana Dagubatti made a brief appearance in Maryada. They were not just plugging their latest film but had also became an integral part of the show for a short time, when they raided a rave party in Goa, which the serial’s protagonists Priya and Aditya were part of.

Face it: Television is a necessary evil

Just as you have people with different sexual preferences (I know that’s a strange parallel to draw) you have people who constitute different TV types.

Zor ka jhatka is a whimper but there were other ups on TV

The verdict is out. Zor Ka Jhatka is a wipeout. Yes, pun intended. Probably the free Sea link ride too didn’t lure enough people to the show. What was everyone’s heartthrob Shah Rukh Khan thinking when he signed this one? Yup I too have heard of those sweet sounding amounts that he has been paid for the show but what about the damage that this has done to his credibility? I just can’t IMAGINE why he ever said yes to this one. What a waste of talent.

Good times on the tube

I start this column on an optimistic note. The week ahead is looking good to me. And I hope this unpredictable medium doesn’t prove me wrong. The way the small screen is progressing and getting better with each passing show it definitely has a lot to offer this week to its loyal audiences.

Women can make a fool of you on television and how!

Television as a medium has its own limitations. As by now, almost all of us know that it’s only the saas bahu sagas in different shapes and sizes that work. However much you may argue that saas bahu shows have been dead and that audiences do not want them anymore the fact remains this genre still works for most channels.
