Indian viewers who are used to seeing TV heroines who are pretty, fair and slim (size zero) are now in for a refreshing change as they see a heroine who is the girl-next-door type on Sony Entertainment Television’s Amita Ka Amit (Swastik Productions). Yes, we are talking about Chandni Bhagwanani who plays Amita. Talking about her character, Chandni says, “Amita is very relatable to the youth. She is average looking, plump, simple and not over-hyped. She dreams of getting married to a guy who will be better than her and will make her happy. This is a sweet love story involving no vamp whatsoever.” Amita seems to be low on her confidence. What is Chandni’s take on that? To this, the girl states, “It is true that Amita is not as confident as many other girls. She is after all average in looks and not perfect. In fact she has to ponder ten times before deciding the dress she will wear and is anxious on whether she will be able to carry herself properly in it. She knows well that she cannot change the world around her and is an introvert.” Chandni confesses that she did not really have to prepare for the role. However while executing the emotional scenes she makes it a point to keep in mind that there should be innocence and not childishness in Amita. The actress goes on to say, “Producer Siddharth Tewary felt that the only preparation that I had to put in to fit the role was to lose 10 kilos to look younger. And I have already lost 7 kilos. I am not starving to lose weight; it is just that I am eating healthy food. Also Mr Tewary has fixed a treadmill on the sets, and I jog on it whenever time permits.” Does Chandni believe in love or arranged marriage? She readily replies, “As I am indecisive like Amita, I would rather marry a man chosen by parents. If they feel that a guy is trustworthy, respects women and is right for me I will go by their choice.” Keep up your good work, Chandni!!!
