MUMBAI: A few months ago there were reports of the abduction of a former Balaji Telefilms executive Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan. He reportedly resigned from Ekta Kapoor’s company and traveled to Kenya to assist in President Ruto's election campaign, without informing anyone, his brother Iftikhar said. There are rumors that he might have been assassinated by the Special Services Unit police force for taking part in the campaign.

Reportedly, Zulfiqar along with a man named Zaid Kidwai and their local driver were abducted in July from Nairobi.

His brother Iftikhar, who stays in Dubai is now back in India to support his family in these harrowing times. He said, “The director of investigations has rubbished all the reports that are appearing in Kenyan media about my brother's death. In fact, they are willing to accept Indian investigators to join the probe there. The Indian high commission in that country is helping us. We are also requesting the Indian government to actively pursue the matter.”

Zulfiqar is the youngest amongst 6 siblings. Iftikhar further added, “I last spoke to him on July 19 after which my brother-in-law called him on July 22. He was abducted on the night of July 22-23. We failed to connect with him for days afterward and then approached his friends and the police, courts and government for help to trace him.”

He added, “We have no knowledge of that. He resigned his job at Balaji Telefilms on July 15 and informed us that he was headed to the Masai Mara sanctuary for a sabbatical from work in India.”

The Kenyan authorities asked the families to identify certain clothing items of the missing persons. Iftikhar said, “They were old and moth-eaten. No less than 170 officials joined the search. The good thing is that the Kenyan authorities have admitted that their search is inconclusive. They have detained SSU members for investigation. The Indian high commission has clearly enunciated that the probe should be based on evidence not hearsay.”

Zulfiqar had incidentally planned to visit his brother Iftikhar in Dubai on 24th July. The latter said, “He had asked us all to go with him to Masai Mara in September, he liked the place so much. He was a very caring person, always making sure everyone was well looked after, beneath that flamboyant outdoor personality.”
