Producers fail to address concerns

Very often our readers write in to us trying to seek answers from TV producers for either altering the landscape of their favourite soap or winding up their show. Questions are many but seldom do producers have answers for their viewers. Perhaps, feigning ignorance is a key characteristic of a TV producer. But this ignorance isn’t limited to the viewers.

On a day when the producers could have shed their ‘ignorant’ tag, they (shockingly), chose to clam up once again. The occasion was the press conference held by the core team of Association of Motion Pictures and Television to explain their position on the current crisis facing the TV industry. The striking workers had made their position clear, last evening the channels defended their move to black out all programmes. Today it was the TV producers’ turn to narrate their side of the story. The core team was represented by Mukesh Bhatt and it was only him who did the talking. “I don’t think the channel, workers or we are to be blamed. The problem lies with the system. It’s time for a change,” said Bhatt. When reminded that the channels didn’t hesitate in saying that the problem lies with them (producers and workers), Mukesh responded, “Chote bhai ne jo galti ki hum usse dohrana nahi chahenge (we wouldn’t repeat the same mistake committed by our little brother). Since nothing concrete came out of the press conference was there a real need to have called the press last evening?
