Shows like Naagin and Kavach showcase GOOD versus EVIL, not regression: Namik Paul

MUMBAI: Namik Paul will soon be seen in a new avatar as Angad Jindal in the supernatural show Kavach on Colors after playing a ghost in Sony TV’s Ek Deewana Tha.

The supernatural genre has been a subject of many discussions and was considered to promote regressive beliefs at a point of time. When quizzed about showcasing regressive content to progressive television viewing audience, Namik had an interesting insight to share.

He said, 'When you talk about regressive shows, I do not think supernatural content, like the one you’d see in Kavach, promotes negative beliefs. It’s a supernatural, prime-time show at 8 PM, taking the place of Naagin. This is something that I am very thankful and excited for. Shows like Naagin and Kavach are purely showcase good versus evil and not something that is regressive. For example, if a man practicing domestic violence is shown in a positive light, it is regressive. But this is something that is purely entertainment.'

He further added, 'When I was signed on for Kasautii, I was more than happy to play a part in it, and I have no regrets about not doing it too. But if you were to ask me as an actor, what would I prefer between the two shows, I would say Kavach, because it offers me a lead role. It is an obvious preference.'

Generalizing the idea, Namik also mentioned that people love watching supernatural shows and that it is the flavour of the season.

He averred, 'Balaji Telefilms makes Naagin, and as soon as it went on-air, the TRPs touched the sky! This is very unheard of, and people were surprised to see it ruling the BARC ratings right after its first episode hit the screens! As an actor, I would love to entertain the audience, and if it is a massive audience, it is all the more exciting. In the course of 11 months, a lot of people told me that supernatural is a fad and a lot of other things against the genre, but we are here to entertain people, and if they want to see this, I will bring my best on screen.'

Well said, Namik!
