Sriti Jha and I would take breaks in between shots as some scenes were quite disturbing: Karanvir Bohra on Saubhagyavati Bhava

Karanvir Bohra opens up on playing the character of a psychotic husband, Viraj Dobriyal in Saubhagyavati Bhava.

MUMBAI: The world has come to a standstill with the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus.

The world economy has been affected and so is our country's. Along with the many industries which are facing the brunt of the situation, it is the entertainment fraternity too. The shoots are stalled and the top GEC's are re-running the old shows which were high on TRP. TellyChakkar.com was the first one to bring to its readers the news about Karanvir Bohra and Sriti Jha’s Saubhagyavati Bhava re-running on Shemaroo TV. (Read here: Here is why Karanvir Bohra apologized publicly

We got in touch with Karanvir Bohra aka Viraj Dobriyal of Saubhagyavati Bhava to know more about the show and the iconic character that he portrayed...

- How did you bag Saubhagyavati Bhava?

I auditioned for it and I nailed it because this was the kind of role that challenged me. While auditioning, to get into the skin of the character so I thought to myself that how would I behave if I was a wife-beater.  The character did take a toll on me at some point as an actor has to get into the emotions and traits of the assigned character to portray it well.

- What feedback did you get for Viraj Dobrial?

People loved to hate Viraj Dobriyal. They couldn’t stop hating him but they loved watching him. There were small kids who loved Viraj just for his psychosis, not for the wife-beater he was.

- Did you improvise on scenes? Tell us about it.

The entire character was improvised. It was just not what they thought it would be as this was a kind of show which was in the South. It is like watching Sir Sadashiv Amrapurkar ji acting. You would know something bad is now going to unfold in the drama once he's made an entry. For that matter, when you watch Nana Patekar ji on-screen you expect something crazy and wild out of him. This role was like that, it was villain through-out. So, I just improvised it the way I thought I would want to play Viraj and thus, this happened.

- Did the character make you feel heavy or made u feel like Viraj is disgusting?

It never made me feel that Viraj is disgusting. I just felt that these kind of men are disgusting. I am totally against domestic violence and yes it used to take a toll on me in real life because the acting was very heavy. It had heavy dialogues and emotionally and physically we had to be very invested. Sriti and me, it was very disturbing. We would actually take breaks in between, go back to our rooms, relax and come back. It used to take me a lot of time to get back in and out of the role.

- Fondest memory from the show?

The best part of the show was that all would give their creative inputs and we incorporated as much as we could because this show went so well. All were quite happy and excited. It was a great time and my exciting time was that cult feel of the character. It was crazy.

- The show is going to be re-run on a new channel - Shemaroo TV. Your take on this.

I wish Shemaroo TV all the best and I know this show on Shemaroo TV is going to rock because it’s a great show, people still talk about it, people still talk about my character of Viraj. Wherever I go, people talk about Viraj and Jhanvi's love so it will always be remembered. It's been a long time since it aired on TV, so I am glad that Shemaroo TV picked it up and it’s a perfect time for it to be showcased.
