In a bid to emulate his grand dad Raj Kapoor, we have been hearing that Ranbir Kapoor has been toying with the idea of producing a film since quite some time. Now, here comes the news that the actor has taken the first but significant step in that direction. The actor, who is gearing up for Anurag Kashyap-led Phantom Productions' ambitious project Bombay Velvet, has decided to come on broad as a co-producer for the same. Said Ranbir in a statement, "Innovative content excites me and I believe the Phantom team is a pioneer at it. This seems to be the perfect time in my career to take up bigger ownership of a film and turn a producer." Observed Vikas Bahl of Phantom Productions, "As a team we realised his inputs to the script is much more than an actor's. He looks at the bigger picture, the scope of the film beyond his role. And that is when it occurred to us that it would be great to have him play a part in the production as well." Apparently, during one of the script reading sessions, the Barfi actor was asked if he would like to play a bigger role in the film to which he agreed. However, it has still to be decided if Ranbir's name would feature in the film credits as producer or not. Bombay Velvet, based on historian Gyan Prakash's Mumbai Fables, is the story of how the city became a metropolis against the backdrop of love, greed, violence and Jazz music. The film, that is a part of a trilogy that aims at recreating Bombay of the 50s, 60s and 70s, co-stars Anushka Sharma.
