MUMBAI :Amruta Subhash will next be seen in Wonder Women which is slated to premiere on Sony LIV on 18th November 2022. The film is directed by Anjali Menon, and also stars Nadiya Moidu , Nithya Menen, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Padmapriya, Sayanora Phillip, and Archana Padmini.
TellyChakkar recently interacted with Amruta and spoke to her about her experience of working with Anjali Menon, other actresses, and more…
Were you more comfortable with the character in Wonder Women as she is a Maharashtrian?
There were many reasons I was comfortable doing this role. It was not only because she was Maharashtrian, but because my real-life husband is my reel husband. I wanted to work with Anjali Menon because I had seen Bangalore Days and Koode, and was looking forward to working with her, but I don’t know Malayalam so how can I be a part of her films? When this film happened, she said, ‘You don’t have to speak Malayalam, you can speak in Marathi’. And that’s how I became a part of this project.
How was it to be on the sets with so many wonderful and talented actresses?
It was like a bunch of friends working together. Even when we were doing interviews together, Anjali would be like our teacher and we were the naughty kids. There’s a very genuine bonding between us. Most of our scenes happened at one single location, and there were no vanity vans, so we were all together in one room. You cannot imagine what that room was like. It was all about having fun, sharing a lot of secrets, and bonding with each other. It was great knowing them all.
You stated that you called Anjali Menon and told her that you want to work with her. Why does a performer like your stature still have to call directors and ask for work?
I love doing that (calling directors), and I do auditions also because sometimes the filmmakers have to imagine you in a character. After Dhamaka I haven’t done auditions, but that movie also I have gotten through auditions. All three films that I did with Anurag Kashyap I got through auditions. I have a different approach to looking at things. Earlier, I used to be shy, but now I am more open. It’s wonderful to tell a director that I love you and your work, and I want to work with you.
