Author Manju Kapur talks about her association with Ekta Kapoor for ‘The Married Woman’!

MUMBAI: The recently launched trailer of ALTBalaji and ZEE5's latest show – 'The Married Woman' featuring Ridhi Dogra and Monica Dogra in the lead roles, has impressed the viewers, fraternity people, and critics alike for its progressive and path-breaking content.

Based on celebrated author Manju Kapur's bestseller novel ‘A Married Woman’, the show dives deep into the characters of Astha and Peeplika. The story, set in the nineteen nineties, revolves around Astha, an ideal wife, daughter-in-law, and a perfect mother; who has everything a woman can hope from her marriage- a responsible husband, in-laws, and two children, yet she feels incomplete as an individual. Breaking the norms of the normal society, she sets out on a journey of self-discovery and finds her path. Thus ensues, the story and the journey of a married woman. Peeplika on the other hand is a complete contrast, an artist who’s never been interested in anything the least bit conventional who helps her explore her path on self-discovery.

Talking about her novel’s on-screen adaptation and her collaboration with Ekta Kapoor, Manju Kapur says, “It’s not a collaboration but a very professional relationship. She (Ekta) makes the series and I write the book. I have just met her once. She buys the rights of my books to make web series or television soaps. My agent sells them, that’s it. It’s not that we are interacting with each other. But this is the way I like it to be.”

“As a writer, you need that peace and space to write. A writer is alone. But a visual medium, be it cinema, web series or television, it’s a team effort. You can’t do it alone. The work gets divided. As a writer, you want your books to have maximum reach and I am glad through the visual medium, the viewers would get to know about my book ‘A Married Woman’,” the author adds.

'The Married Woman' is an urban, relationship drama about women and their conditioning levied by society and her search to find herself. The show features Ridhi Dogra and Monica Dogra as the central characters and notable actors, including Imaad Shah, Ayesha Raza, Rahul Vohra, Divya Seth Shah, Nadira Babbar, and Suhaas Ahuja, among others.

Watch 'The Married Woman' streaming from 8th March only on ALTBalaji & ZEE5!
