MUMBAI: Anjali Sivaraman was last seen in the Netflix’s series Class which premiered a few weeks ago. The web series is an adaptation of Spanish series Elite and also stars Gurfateh Pirzada and Piyush Khati in the lead roles.
TellyChakkar recently interacted with Anjali and spoke to her about comparison with Elite, upcoming projects and more...
When Elite premiered on Netflix, it had grabbed the attention of the Indian audience as well. So, when you signed Class was there any hesitation that there would be comparisons?
There was no hesitation and I was 100 percent sure that there would be a comparison. But, I had faith in the direction team that it would be different from what Elite was. Ashim (Ahluwalia) has a very particular style of filmmaking and it kind of immediately grips an audience, so I knew it would be great.
Indian audiences are quite okay with watching intimate scenes in international series. But, when there are intimate scenes in an Indian series, people say that the makers are trying to sell sex. So, what’s your take on it?
I feel like sex is a part of everyone’s life and we should start to normalise it only then people will stop having this idea that everything is about sex. Yes, in certain situation you can have the argument that sex sells, but with regards to the show that we just did, it isn’t about the sex, it is about so many different things and the way that it was portrayed thankfully this time around people were able to focus on those many things that the show had to talk about rather than just sex. So, it’s all about normalising something that is already normal.
So, tell us something about your upcoming project and is Class season 2 happening?
I am pretty sure Class season 2 will happen. But honestly, I don’t have any knowledge about the subject. In terms of other projects, I can’t really talk about it but there are a few things. So, you have to wait and watch.
