MUMBAI: Nitin Chandrakant Desai was one of the most famous art directors in the Indian film industry. This morning, we got the sad news that he is no more and died by suicide. He committed suicide at his studios in Karjat, ND Studios.
In his career spanning more than three decades, he worked on multiple films like Lagaan, Jodhaa Akbar, Devdas, Hum Dil De Chuke Saman, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, and others. He had also worked on the series Paurashpur which was released in 2020.

Well, Desai is no more, but he was actually working as a show-runner on a big OTT series. We are talking about Maharana which stars Gurmeet Choudhary and Ridhima Pandit. The series was announced in February 2023 and Gurmet’s look as Maharana Pratap had grabbed everyone’s attention.
While Desai was famously known as an art director, he was also a filmmaker. He directed the Marathi film Ajintha in 2012. As Desai was known for designing beautiful sets for period films, everyone was excited to know what he would offer as a show-runner with Maharana.
The details about Maharana are not yet out. It is not yet known whether the shooting of the show is over or it is still in production. So, let’s wait for an update about it. The series is being made for Disney+ Hotstar.
