MUMBAI: Director Mukul Abhyankar in this exclusive chat with TellyChakkar talks about his upcoming web series Bestseller. He speaks about the improvisation done on the sets by the actors, the discussion he had while shooting for the film, and the parameters which he looks at before signing projects.

How much improvisation was done on the sets?

Improvisation was done only by tweaking a few lines but content we couldn’t change. As a director, you are focusing on the actor who is not reacting at all. All the actors were very loyal to the script. We have done a lot of workshops where they have said those lines many times. So, actually, not much improvisation happened on the sets while shooting the show.

Did you ever face any healthy discussion or argument with your cast?

There was nothing objectional in the script. People have the notion about that web series should have bad words. But this web series is a very clean show. Be it violence, be it sex, we have only shown as it is. Because the content didn’t allow us to spend time on that. Actors like Mithun, Gauahar, and Shruti know exactly what they have to do in their scenes. If there are any changes in the script, they will come to me and argue about it. I actually prefer the actors who keep questioning me because it shows their involvement and you know that they are living the characters. It was a delight to have such actors on board.  

What are the parameters you look at before signing a project?

It has to be very entertaining. If it holds me for a long time then it is a winner for me. I also see the canvas it has to offer, like a series that is going from one place to another, travels from one place to another. It is a very loveable experience. And this web series has provided me with all of these experiences.
