MUMBAI:  Nila Madhab Panda’s The Jengaburu Curse started streaming on Sony LIV a few days ago. It is the first cli-fi series made in India, and stars Hitesh Dave in a pivotal role.

TellyChakkar recently interacted with Hitesh Dave and spoke to him about the response the series has received, his character and more.

What response are you getting for the series?

The response to The Jengaburu Curse has been fantastic. It is going superb because till now people have not seen a cli-fi (climate fiction). It shows how climate change affects humans and also talks about greediness of humans. It is a new thing because we have only heard about coal and ironing mining and for the sake of mining you destroy a whole tribe which is very well woven in the story by director Nila Madhab Panda.

Tell us something about your character.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with the director and Sony LIV. I play the character of the mining minister who gave an order to shoot at sight for the specific tribe. They are one’s who voted for him and it is just for the sake of some money. Power and money makes a man mad that has been shown. But, I come to know about my mistakes later, and my character gets lung cancer. So, then my character from being black becomes grey and then he becomes white.”

You play a minister, so did you watch any videos of a politician for your reference?

No, I didn’t see any video. I follow a simple principle in my life that whenever I start a new project, I go with plain slate. I let the director tell me whatever he wants from me and I try to fulfil his vision. Language was the biggest problem in this character because Odia is something I didn’t know. So, that was a difficult part for me. There was a girl named Madhumita who helped me with my dialect and the director also helped me a lot.
