MUMBAI: Filmmaker Siddharth Malhotra in this exclusive interview talks about his upcoming web series Bestseller. Siddharth talks about the response he has been getting for the trailer, what does he see in a project before putting in his money, and what are the parameters for him to select any projects.
Tell us about the response you have been getting for the trailer of the web series.
I am an industry kid, so for me, I have been fortunate to get a lot of support from the industry for this show. I got a great response from Karan Johar, Amitabh Bachchan, and Dharmendra who gave us their blessing for the show. The response has been overwhelming and the people are eagerly waiting for the web series on 18th February. We have been working on the show for more than three years. It has been a long journey but I feel it’s satisfying to me. We are proud of this show and hope the audience loves it too.
What do you look at before putting your money into any projects?
For any filmmaker, it is always their gut feeling where you want to be a part of it or you want to tell this kind of story to your audiences. So are we doing something to leave behind a legacy or are we doing it only because of the money? When Bestseller came to me, I found it to be a very compelling story, and the base point of the plot was very strong. So we bought the rights from the author and changed the setting of it but the plot remains the same. Then we created our own world and made it into eight episodes.
Tell us what are the parameters you see before signing a project?
For me as a filmmaker, it has always been the emotional journey of the character to which I can relate. If it moves me or makes me laugh, cry, hate, love then I feel connected with the characters.
