While the show and your performance is getting an amazing response, what’s that one compliment that’s stuck in your heart?
There are many compliments; it’s difficult to speak about one. But, I think Hansal sir recently said that Zeeshan is magic, so when your director says such a thing then it is exciting for you. However, my Instagram is filled with messages and people are writing such long compliments. So, it’s very overwhelming.
Your character is said to be based on Hussain Zaidi, so did you meet him before starting the shoot?
I have worked with Hansal sir earlier, even in a biopic. If your character is inspired by someone, he never wants you to try to do something like that person because finally it is about the script that we have in our hand. My character is a lot more fictionalised, so I didn’t meet anyone; it was just about the script and words in it, and how to communicate it in the best way possible.
The series is based on a real-life incident, so was there a hesitation before taking up the role that what if it gets into any controversy?
I don’t think that there was a problem like that because in this fiction and drama has been added a lot. It is not just about that book; it is just inspired by the book. It is not an exact depiction of any real incident in that sense. That book inspired Hansal sir to talk about something that he wanted to talk about. So, I didn’t think anything like there would be any controversy because of it.
Scoop is directed by Hansal Mehta and it is based on Jigna Vora’s biographical memoir Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison.
