MUMBAI: Rocket Boys season 2 starting Jim Sarbh and Ishwak Singh was premiered a few days ago. The show, which is directed by Abhay Pannu, has received a good response from critics and audiences.
TellyChakkar recently interacted with Abhay and spoke to him about the response he has received for the series, feeling the pressure of directing such a grand project and more...
What reactions are you getting for Rocket Boys season 2?
For season 1 and season 2, the reactions that I got are very heart-warming. The kind of messages that I get from people are so heart-warming that they are too good to be true. I know that some of the reviewers haven’t liked the show, but that’s fine because most of the reviewers have loved it and that’s how it is I guess, you can’t make everybody happy. But, I feel we nearly got there, so I am very happy.
You had shot 80 percent of season 2 along with season 1. So, when season 1 got such a great response, did you think of reshooting season 2?
Absolutely, I wanted to reshoot the whole thing. But, I feel that’s how most directors and creators are. When season 1 came out, there were certain things that people didn’t appreciate and since I had shot 80 percent of season 1 already, I knew that there were certain things that people didn’t like in season 1 which were there in season 2. And things that people enjoyed in the 1st season were not present in the second season. So, I wanted to change it and there was a time when I thought that I should do it, but doing that would have meant that I would have completely made it into a khichdi. So, we stuck to what we initially envisioned for the show.
Rocket Boys is a very big show which talks about the history of India. So, was there pressure while directing it?
Honestly, I wasn’t pressured. I think that when I started writing at that time I was the most pressurized. When I started writing I had to write both seasons together. I started writing on 10th March 2020, and then Covid hit. That’s when we got a chance to work on both seasons and we were able to complete both seasons while the lockdown was there. So, at that time there was a lot of pressure on me, in terms of making sure that I can do justice to every character and to that era. Thankfully, everybody loved the script and I think that’s when I realized that even if I don’t do very well we will still be in a good space. So, I don’t think I was too pressurized when we were shooting it. The only time I feel pressurized is on the day of release.”
