There was definitely a disappointment

MUMBAI : Tanya Maniktala, who is known for her performances in OTT series like A Suitable Boy, Chutzpah, and Tooth Pari, has made her Hindi film debut with Mumbaikar which started streaming on Jio Cinema recently. The movie also stars Vikrant Massey and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles.

TellyChakkar recently interacted with Tanya and spoke to her about the response Mumbaikar is getting, not getting a chance to share screen space with Vijay Sethupathi and more...

What response are you getting for the film?

The response overall has been very good. Obviously, when a cast like Vijay Sethupathi sir, Vikrant Massey, Sachin Khedkar and others, come together then it leads to an explosion. So, I think so far the reviews have been very good and performances are being appreciated.

Was Mumbaikar originally scheduled for an OTT release?

It actually wasn’t, but obviously with Covid we take everything with a pinch of salt. It was initially planned for a theatrical release, but I think OTT has already done so well for itself, and I think it was a huge announcement of Jio Cinema with the lineups that they have and we have managed to cater to the audience that would fit very well with this movie.

You don’t have any scenes with Vijay Sethupathi, so were you a bit disappointed that you didn’t get a chance to share screen space with him?

I know, there was definitely a disappointment that I didn’t get to act in front of the camera with him, but I did get to meet him. When he came on the sets, there was this huge audience gathered just to see him and they were all whistling on the streets and we could sense there was a change in the atmosphere. He is humble, he got out of the car and waved at everybody and smiled, and he is so lovely to speak to. So, even though I didn’t get to share screen space with him directly, all those interactions with him were so lovely.
