TellyChakkar recently interacted with Huma and spoke to her about the movie, the Gujarati accent and more...
Your father is into restaurant business so since childhood you must have been grown up around food. So, can we say that it was easy for you to prep for this role?
Yes, but my father makes hardcore non-vegetarian food, and Tarla ji's whole thing was about vegetarian food. But, I feel food is a unified factor, and when you share your food with someone, your friendship or your relationship with that person becomes deeper. So, for me, friendship is always about when somebody eats the same food that you eat, and you actually become close to that person. So, yes, my family has been about food and hospitality.
We have mainly seen in movies that when a Gujarati character is there, the accent is kind of a caricature. But, in the trailer, we don’t get to see the heavy accent, so was how easy or difficult was it to get the perfect accent?
I didn't know Gujarati, so I was taught. My accent coach was Hetal, and we created the Tarla accent.
When we told her that we had met Tarla many years ago, and in the poster she does look like her, Huma stated...
Recently, someone else also came and told me that he knew her and I look a lot like her which I think is a huge compliment. It's not just me, Piyush has also pushed me, and on this film there's always been an amazing spirit of collaboration where we all have been trying to do our best work possible. So, this is a special one!
