MUMBAI: During these difficult times, theatres have been shut for more than two months. One of the films that was soon to have a theatrical release, Gulabo Sitabo premiered on Amazon Prime today.
It has been directed by Shoojit Sircar and stars Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana .
The story revolves around a tenant named Baankey, played by Ayushmann Khurana, and a landlord named Mirza, played by Mr Bachchan. In a game of cat and mouse, they try to pull each other down. Mirza tries to evacuate Baankey from his mansion Fatima Mahal, which is nearly 100 years old, whereas Baankey and his family are tough people. A lawyer and an ASI officer get involved, but destiny has something else in store for both of them.
The screenplay holds your attention right from the very first scene of the movie. It does lose its grip a little after and you may tend to get bored, but the performances of the leads will never let you down.
The direction and storytelling are brilliant. A special mention needs to be made for the sets, which look extremely real and raw.
The dialogues are decent and some will definitely have you laughing. However, a few dialogues of Mr. Bachchan are a little unclear and you may have to watch the scene again or have the subtitles on.

The background music plays a very important role in this movie. It helps in the crafting of the scenes and building audience interest. It also enhances the comic scenes.
Talking about the performances, Mr. Bachchan is the highlight of the movie. This is among the veteran actor's best deliveries. On the other hand Ayushman Khurana is effortless and has given his best. The chemistry between both the actors is really amazing. Vijay Raaz as the ASI officer is great and has some funny scenes. Bijendra Kala as the lawyer is decent. Shrishti Shrivastava and Farrukh Jaffar have done justice to their roles.
The positive points include the unique storyline and storytelling. The performances of the leads and the chemistry between both the talented actors is something you will enjoy the most. The satirical comedy and the funny sequences are also the highlights.
The negatives are that the screenplay is a little slow mid-way, but the positives more than make up for it.
Overall, this priceless pair is completely worth your time, and the film is a perfect watch with your family during the lockdown.
