MUMBAI: Jaideep Ahlawat, born in Kharkara, Meham village in Haryana's Rohtak district, harboured dreams of serving in the Indian Army. However, after facing disappointment in his attempts to clear the SSB interviews, he turned to his passion for acting. He pursued an MA in English from Maharshi Dayanand University in 2005 and later graduated from FTII in 2008, where he honed his acting skills alongside future stars like Vijay Varma, Sunny Hinduja, and Rajkummar Rao.
Ahlawat's journey in the film industry began with a guest role in the 2008 short film 'Narmeen'. He then appeared in mainstream Bollywood films like 'Aakrosh', 'Khatta Meetha', and 'Rockstar', but it was his role as Shahid Khan in 'Gangs of Wasseypur' (2012) that brought him recognition for his talent.

Despite his early success, Jaideep faced years of struggle, with many of his roles going unnoticed. It was the advent of OTT platforms that changed his fortunes. His portrayal of Delhi Police Officer Hathi Ram Chaudhary in the 2020 web series 'Paatal Lok' on Amazon Prime Video catapulted him to stardom. The series received widespread acclaim, and Jaideep's performance was lauded by critics and audiences alike.
'Paatal Lok' not only established Jaideep Ahlawat as a powerhouse performer but also made him one of the highest-paid actors in the OTT space. Reports suggest that he received Rs 40 lakh for the first season, with his fee reportedly increasing to a staggering Rs 20 crore for the second season.
