Jehanabad actor Satyadeep Misra says, “When I see police officers being portrayed on screens I cringe” – Exclusive

MUMBAI: Satyadeep Misra has been a part of movies and web series like No One Killed Jessica, Love Breakups Zindagi, Phobia, Illegal, Masaba Masaba, His Storyy, Tanaav, and others. The actor will next be seen in the web series Jehanabad.

TellyChakkar recently interacted with the actor and spoke to him about the series, playing the role of a cop, and more...

What responses are you getting for the trailer of Jehanabad?

The fact that it’s on Sony LIV, you know they have a lot of slow burners. Their shows don’t make a huge song and dance about it, and they come and quietly with word of mouth they grow and content speaks. All their shows you know suddenly two weeks later, someone will say ‘have you seen this?’ So, it’s their way of doing things; they just pick up content and they just have an organic way of doing it.

What made you say yes to the project?

A couple of cheques (laughs). I was called by Shobito who now heads Sony LIV. He called me and said that there was this part, but I was very busy for a long time and couldn’t go for the audition. The shoot was pushed and two months later, they just told me to do it, we are not doing the audition, and whenever somebody says that I say yes. I was working with Sudhir sir at that time in Tanaav who is the showrunner of this series as well. He told me to read it and I said yes.

When we talk about cops in movies, people remember Singham and Chulbul Pandey. As you play a cop in Jehanabad, did you look at any other actors’ work just for reference?

My father was an IPS officer and which is why my entire life when I see police officers being portrayed on screens I cringe. So, I have grown up with an IPS officer in the house. I am also shocked by the fact that the script will say that this particular character is an ACP. Now, I know that if you are a 45-year-old character playing an ACP, you are not being promoted; so, I am very acutely aware of what that means. The way it’s written usually, it’s like a police officer can be given any rank, and I would tell my father how an inspector can have such a huge house. So, I never really looked for inspiration outside, I have seen my father, and his colleagues, and I have spent a lot of time with people in uniform.
