Lantrani released today (9 Feb, 2024) and is a movie that tells 3 different stories. The movie is directed by Gurvinder Singh, Bhaskar Hazarika, Kaushik Ganguly and features some great talents like Jitendra Kumar, Johnny Lever, Nimisha Sanjayan and Jisshu Sengupta as lead characters.

As we said earlier, the movie showcases three independent stories that capture the experience of small Indian towns and villages where people take incredible measures to survive. Not just one but all three stories will fill you up with all different emotions, be it Hud Hud Dabangg, Dharna Mana Hai, or Sanitized Samachar.

In the first story we see Johnny Lever playing the role of a constable and Jisshu Sengupta playing the role of a prisoner, creating an intense and dark scenario. The second story is about a husband and wife played by Jitendra Kumar and Nimisha Sanjayan. The story is really grasping with their chemistry, understanding and suffering but it will leave you with a smile on your face by the end surely. When it comes to the third story, you might feel a little cringe but as the story goes a little forward, you will surely start enjoying the setting of the story where there’s dark humour mixed with harsh reality.

The movie, be it any story, does not lack in screenplay as it captures not just the right emotions of the actors but also captures the air of rural setting. There will be times while watching the movie where you will get such mixed emotions that you won’t be able to decide what to feel, positively of course as the scenes have so much weight and complexity, one might happily get lost.

Clearly shows that the director is out to entertain you with some hard-hitting stories and it’s amazing the way they do it. Be it the angle of shots, the consistency, prioritizing of characters and subject or capturing the silence, it was all on point and with a reason. However, the slow pace with silence will at times make you feel like you are losing your grip and as complexity is not acceptable to all, one might be left wondering what’s really going on.

The BGM score will definitely add to the effect that the makers have tried to create and will surely give you the right feels. The BGM paints a dark but hopeful picture at times while painting a playful picture sometimes too. It doesn’t fail to capture the essence of the scene and at times it feels as if the music is breaking through the silence which is great. The movie certainly has a dark theme with some dark humour and emotions and it justifies the theme well.

Bringing Johnny Lever first, it was the best start that the makers could give as the actor who is famously known for comedy. This time he gives you something completely different to enjoy and even though there are times when you will laugh at his scenes, there are times when his emotional acting will make you skip a beat. We must say, Jisshu Sengupta, Jitendra Kumar, Nimisha Sanjayan and all the other actors featured, win our hearts with just their expressions and silence, showing a soft core with a lot of strength. The actors don’t fail to show their emotions right while at times some scenes will leave you clueless.

The stories are great, the performances are amazing and the BGM plays a great role in giving you the right feels. There are times when the seriousness of the scene will capture you while at times you will be left with a smile. However, the patience level will be tested many times and the silence won’t help. Surely the actors did a great job but a little more effort in the quantity of the dialogues would have been great as it would have painted a more definite picture.

All-in-all, the stories told were great but we must say, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Also, it was great seeing Johnny Lever with such layers of character and there’s clearly a lot of thought put into the compilations. Therefore, we give this a 3.5 stars.
