MUMBAI: In India, the OTT platform earlier was not considered as much as today. But when Amazon Prime Video and Netflix launched Inside Edge and Sacred Games respectively the scale of Indian shows became cinematic. This also increased the fees of Indian actors who work for OTT platforms. Today, the highest-paid Indian actor on OTT charges more than the top Hindi film industry actors.
Global star Priyanka Chopra Jonas is India’s highest-paid actor or actress on OTT, according to her payday in Prime Video’s Citadel. The show, directed by Russo Brothers, was made on a massive budget of $250 million. Where for the first time in her life, the actress was given equal pay as her male co-star. While the exact sum she and her co-star get is a pay which is speculated by international trade sites, it is in the vicinity of $25-30 million each. This means that Priyanka’s fees for this series are more than the entire production budget of India’s most expensive series directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Heeramandi.
Before Citadel actress, Hindi Film industry actor Ajay Devgn had been India’s highest-paid OTT star, courtesy of his massive Rs 125-crore payday for Disney+ Hotstar’s Rudra: Edge of Darkness. Most other actors get paid in the Rs 10-15 crore for their roles on streaming platforms. For example, Manoj Bajpayee reportedly received Rs 10 crore for The Family Man. Similarly, the diva, Kareena Kapoor charged Rs 12 crore for Jaane Jaan, while Alia Bhatt earned Rs 15 crore for Darlings.
