MUMBAI : Shriya Pilgaonkar was seen this year in web series like Guilty Minds and The Broken News. The actress’ next project is Taaza Khabar, which is slated to premiere on 6th January 2023. The trailer of the series has been released, and it is getting a good response.

TellyChakkar recently interacted with Shriya and spoke to her about Taaza Khabar, her role in the series, and more…

Tell us something about your character in Taaza Khabar.

For me, it was really exciting to have this new look compared to what I did this year. So, this is very different for me and I wanted to be like that. My character Madhu is a sex worker; she deeply loves and cares for Vasya. The beauty of this relationship is that Vasya is a manager at a public toilet and Madhu is a sex worker, but they have a lot of respect for each other. They are friends first and lovers later, and after this Vardaan comes into their life, a lot of things change and that is what you are going to watch in the show. Concerning Madhu’s personality, we don’t see much about her life inside the brothel, but we do see somebody who has hope for a better life.

n the trailer, we get to see a couple of romantic scenes between you and Bhuvan Bam. So, was it difficult to get the chemistry perfect?

That was the easiest. In the past, there have been projects where I had to build a certain chemistry with other actors, but with Bhuvan, as I didn’t know him at all, I was surprised that we were very comfortable in each other’s company and presence from the get-go. I think that effortlessness was very important for the story, not just in the romantic sense. The victory of this show is that equations between the actors are seamless and it just feels very natural.

As you said that you play the role of a sex worker, so for your reference did you watch any other films in which an actress played a similar role?

No, I didn’t want to because I feel like it’s very easy to get influenced by performances, especially of this nature. I didn’t want to make it caricaturish and secondly, as the story doesn’t focus on Madhu’s life inside the brothel, for me it was just important to build her instincts and her inner world separately. So, of course in terms of dialect and body language, I sort of just sat with Madhu for a while. One of my friends had played the role of a sex worker, she came home and I told her to just do a workshop with me. That helped me a lot because when I came on sets I instantly felt comfortable.
