Swara Bhasker reacts to CBFC Chief Prasoon Joshi objecting to her web show Rasbhari

Bollywood star Swara Bhasker reveals that she respects Prasoon Joshi too much to believe that he misunderstood a controversial scene from her web show, Rasbhari.

MUMBAI : Swara Bhasker is currently celebrating the release of her latest web show, Rasbhari, which is based on Meerut-based teacher that manages to wow a streak of men, including her students, with her beauty. The show, however, has opened to a mixed response. It was only recently that CBFC chairperson Prasoon Joshi had objected to a scene that showed a young girl dancing in front of many guests. He alleged the makers of objectifying the minor in front of men. However, Swara justified the show saying that Prasoon has misunderstood the scene and that the girl was dancing with her own consent.

Now, in an interview with Rajeev Masand, the Veere Di Wedding actress stated that she was shocked to see how Prasoon Joshi couldn't understand the scene and that one shouldn't judge the show based on one scene. "It’s never a good idea to analyse a whole show or a film with one clip without context,” said Swara, she added “It’s never a good idea to comment on anything without context, because context is everything. The purpose of the scene is to demonstrate how adults and society sexualises children, and the second thing is how subcontinental parenting we give our girls and boys different values.”

About Prasoon Joshi, the actress continued, "I cannot believe Prasoon sir didn’t understand the meaning of the scene. He’s one of our finest writers, he’s given us some of our finest work. I have too much respect and regard for him to believe that he didn’t understand what that scene meant.”

Further, Swara also admitted to losing a couple of brand endorsements because she has been quite vocal about her political ideology. Swara, who is no stranger to controversy, said that especially after the 2019 elections, she was impacted professionally because of her vocal opinions on politics. "I lost a couple of brands because they were like ‘we want non-political people’, and nobody has said it to my face, but a lot of producers who are well-wishers have said, ‘You’re developing a reputation of being a troublemaker’," said the diva.
