MUMBAI: Sushmita Sen is one of those personalities of Hindi movies industry who doesn’t need an introduction as the actor has won hearts not just in India but all over the globe with her beauty and her acting skills. There are times when just her presence in an event lights up the place around as a lot of have stated that she has a strong aura.
Sushmita Sen became the first Indian winner of Miss Universe beauty competition which was held in May 1994. While playing variety of characters in life, there’s this one character that she played in Taali that has made a special place in the audience’s heart. Taali is an OTT series based on the real life story of Shreegauri Sawant, a renowned transgender activist from Mumbai. The character of Shreegauri Sawant was played by Sushmita Sen, who totally nailed it by her performance.

In fact, the actress won the ‘Best Actress (series)’ award at the Indian Telly Streaming Awards 2024 for her performance and during the event, Sushmita Sen got in touch with Tellychakkar and had an exclusive conversation where we asked her if she felt that this character was a risk.
To this, Sushmita Sen said, “Laga, bilkul laga. It wasn’t a sure-shot. It wasn’t like ‘acha you are choosing a subject because you are going to win an award for it’ that was not the intention. The intention was that as an actor mujhe kabhi aisa kaam karne ko nahi mila tha jisme I could celebrate the power of inclusion. Woh Taali ne mujhe diya so when I took it up it was a brave call on behalf of the whole team. Aaj in fact, Kshitij yahaan hai, Arjun yahaan hai, Kartik Yahaan hai so I think yeh sab ki wajah se and most importantly Gauri Sawant’s inspiring story let us to do this. Himmat toh chahiye thi 100 percent.”
