Unlock review: This Hina Khan starrer fails to impress

ZEE5’S Unlock The Haunted App has finally premiered. Here is the review.

MUMBAI :  ZEE5 had given us several content-driven series and movies such as Chintu Ka Birthday and Kaali 2. Now, the platform is back with a thrilling movie titled Unlock The Haunted App, which has Hina Khan, Kushal Tandon, and Aditi Aarya. After being repeatedly postponed, it is finally available for viewers.

Directed by Debatma Mandal, the 58-minute film speaks about an app which fulfills your deep, dark wishes after just 3 tasks.

The story begins within Suhani, played by Hina Khan, who is in love with Amar, played by Kushal Tandon. But the twist is that Aamar loves Riddhi, played by Aditi Arya. Suhani tries every possible attempt to get Amar in her life and decides to use technology and the dark web. She unknowingly installs an app that completes her wishes after she completing a few tasks. What trouble Suhani will have to face post the task given by this deadly app? How the situation around her changes forms the crux of the film.

The screenplay is decent in a few frames, but at the same time, the editing is very superficial. The direction of the movie is average.

The background music of the movie is good and plays an important role, as this is a thriller. Thus, it contributes a lot to crafting the suspense.

Talking about the performances of the lead, Hina Khan is no doubt a brilliant actress. We all loved her in the movie Hacked, and she is good in this tech thriller too. Kushal, on the other hand, is good but has nothing much to offer as the full 58 minutes are focused on Hina and the situation around her. Rishabh Sinha and Aditi Aarya are decent.

The positives of the movie are Hina Khan and her performance. The screenplay of the movie tries to hold your attention but fails in many scenes. The concept is unique.

The negatives are the poor direction and weak screenplay. The other cast does not have much of a role to play. The film fails to impress as the fiction tech thriller.

Overall, this hour-long movie has very little to offer in terms of horror and thrill but can be a decent watch for the concept and Hina's performance.

Team TellyChakkar goes with 2.5/5 for Unlock The Haunted App.
