MUMBAI : It’s been two months but Gagan Dev Riar is yet to recover from the success and appreciation he received for Scam 2003: The Telgi Story. The first part dropped in September and the finale released last week, receiving the same or even more love from audiences.

For the actor, who played the lead part, the second part will showcase the downfall of the man, who scammed his way to the top. “People will know how one should always channelise their energy in the right direction. I also hope the audiences will go back and watch the whole thing once again,” the actor shared.

We asked whether his life saw a big shift after the release of the SonyLIV show, which got him acclaim from all corners. Calling himself a ‘hermit’, Gagan told indianexpress.com, “I don’t go out as much as actors are expected to. I enjoy my personal space and solitude so I haven’t seen that huge a difference. But yes, when I do step out, I can sense people wondering if I am the same person. And if they do, they come and click photos. So not in a big way but I am enjoying the little changes,” the actor smiled to say.

Calling himself ‘blessed’ to have received all the ‘compliments’, Gagan Dev Riar added that the best one came from his sister. He recalled, “It’s always special when your own family members have good things to tell you. When people you have grown up with see you in a different light. My sister told me that the first time she saw the show, she saw Gagan playing a character. But the second time around, she saw Telgi, and told me how she couldn’t see me anywhere. It was such a special moment for me to hear that from her.”

And what about a burst of offers, have that started coming in? “It has started happening. I have received five different projects till now, and I am contemplating which one to pick. The problem in this industry is that once you do something well, everyone wants to see you in that same space. They want you in those certain characters, and I want to avoid that. This is why I am taking time to choose my next project. But I must thank everyone who offered me such good scripts.”

Gagan Dev Riar confesses he doesn’t want to be remembered as a ‘one-time wonder’. He shared that it’s a slight fear and responsibility that he gives his audience a new side to him every time.

“The whole idea is not to repeat myself. Even when I was doing plays, if a comedy show got hit, I did not pick another one. That’s the way I function, and I want to be known as a versatile actor. I am being cautious and that fear is always looming over my head. I think it’s a good feeling too as that means I love my craft. Jab kuch khone ka darr hota hai tabhi aap kuch paane ki koshish karte ho (When you are fearful about losing something, that’s when you work hard to achieve it). I want every project of mine to stand out so that no one says I could do it just once,” he concluded.
