MUMBAI: Here we are back again with yet another scoop for our Digi-Lovers!

The Novel Coronavirus has surely got gloom in the world with its presence but one thing which proved to be a major savior for people locked down at home while the country went through a pandemic was- The Digital Media.

Yes! The web shows proved to be a massive gamechanger when all hopes of entertainment died and the people had no other option but to remain indoors.

Tellychakkar brings you an interesting list of Web-Series which were launched in 2020 with an Out Of The Box Content

Bulbbul

Bulbul dropped like a bomb on 24th June 2020 on Netflix and took everyone by surprise with its never seen before concept. The web movie is directed by Anvitta Dutt and is produced by Anushka Sharma's Clean Slate Filmz production house. The show delivers a stellar performance by Tripti Dimri, Avinash Tiwary, Rahul Bose and Paoli Dam in the lead roles. Bulbbul is based in the 19th century Bengal. It uses the supernatural horror genre to tell the story of a wide-eyed child bride whose innocence is not met with the same fate. It is a powerfully feminist, revisionist tale of a woman wronged, and it is told with economy, precision, style and feeling. The web show came with the concept of 'chudail' and how our society has a bigger demon hidden behind it, a demon bigger than a demon-woman herself.

Asur

Asur aired on Voot Select and was a total game-changer. The web series starring Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti became massively popular with out of box storyline. A sociological thriller based on Hindu Mythology became the number 1 web show in India leaving behind the popularity of Sacred Games too. The show topped the IMDB ratings in no time and made everyone realize you don't need star power to run a show! The web show is different because it has the backdrop of a serial killer with a connection with Hindu texts and verses. This series is a must-watch if you want to explore a new genre.

JL 50

JL 50 dropped on Sony LIV and created an instant curiosity. The show boasts to be India's first sci-fi experimental series. Abhay Deol is shown as the lead investigator in one of the most bizarre cases of the JL50 airplane which went missing 40 years back but crashed in today's time making him doubt whether time travel is possible or something big is going behind it. The show raises a lot of questions about whether time travel is possible and how is our Indian Mythology linked to it. If you are a science fiction lover then don't miss this one!

Welcome Home

Well, this one is ought to take you on the darker side of life. The digital movie is produced by Paresh Rawal and stars Kashmira Irani and Swarda Thigale in the lead roles as two census takers who are attempting to unearth the shady ongoings in a deserted house, become embroiled in it. The web show is based on true events and as the promo suggests is not for the weak-hearted. The show is something never seen before on digital content and surely makes you question the position of a girl in Indian society.

Pataal Lok

2020 was the year of Anushka Sharma as a producer! The actress's production house was hailed by the people as the one introducing never seen before concepts to the Indian Entertartainment scenario. The show was not just another cop drama but had many stories going on in the backdrop of it. The webshow showcased the parameters of rot in Indian society and how even a good-intentioned man can't change it. The show starred Jaideep Ahlawat, Neeraj Kabi and Abhishek Banerjee playing key roles. If you are bored with the regular cop drama, Pataal Lok is a sure spot for you!

A Simple Murder

A simple murder is a dark comedy series on Sony Liv. You have surely seen many comedy shows but a murder, kidnapping and other dark events happening with a comical twist is something we all want to try watching. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as the lovelorn murderer, Amit Sial as the ruthless killer Santosh, Sushant Singh as the ghazal-spouting mercenary Himmat and Yashpal Sharma as the goon Pandit. Gopal Datt plays a Delhi police inspector who is slow on the uptake, while Vikram Kocchar is his deputy who chafes at his superior’s inefficient ways. This one is not to be missed for sure.

Well, this was all from us. We really hope the digital media treats us with many more out of box concepts in the future.

For now, it's raining web series and we would love to get drenched!
